On November 4, when you go to the polls, you will have an important decision to make about the future of public safety in Staten Island and Brooklyn. When it comes to representing you in Congress, the choice is clear: Mike McMahon will fight to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of dangerous people.

As a member of the New York City Council, Mike McMahon has been a strong advocate for ensuring the safety of Staten Island communities from gun violence. He worked hard to open additional police precincts to ensure that communities had the police protection they needed to remain safe. He also supported Mayor Bloomberg's efforts to combat the illegal gun trade that makes our communities less safe.

By contrast, McMahon's opponent, former New York Assemblyman Bob Straniere, repeatedly voted against banning AK-47s, Uzis, and other military-style semiautomatic assault weapons that threaten neighborhoods and the safety officers who respond to protect them. Straniere also voted against banning .50-caliber weapons, which can be used to target an airplane or fire at a person with great accuracy from more than a quarter of a mile away.

Mike McMahon will fight for common sense gun laws to reduce gun violence in America. He'll be a tremendous new force for change in Washington D.C., and an important asset to his District.
