The PROTECT Minnesota campaign believes we all have a shared responsibility to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
PROTECT Minnesota supports background checks before gun purchases, education on safe storage of firearms, and stopping illegal gun trafficking. Watch Our New Ad
PROTECT Minnesota is educating Minnesotans about how individuals and policy makers can prevent gun violence, deaths and injuries through a new television and radio ad campaign airing on stations across the state. Listen to our radio ads (mp3 files, may take a moment to load):
- Sarah: The Dangers of Unlocked Guns in the Home
- James: Buying a Gun with No Background Check
We need your help to spread the word with these ads. As little as $12 can get us one airing on a station on some Minnesota stations. And $50 can get the ad played once a day for a work week! $294 can get an ad played on a Twin Cities station. Please donate today to get more of these ads on the air. All contributions to the PROTECT Minnesota campaign are tax-deductible.
Gun deaths and injuries in Minnesota: The Problem In Minnesota since 1989, 6,202 people have died from gunshot wounds. Since 2002, annual gun homicides in Minnesota have increased 53 percent, and non-fatal firearm assaults have doubled. (More about firearm deaths and firearm injuries.)
We have a shared responsibility to keep guns out of the wrong hands. Preventing needless gun death and injury is not anti-gun, just as promoting seatbelt use is not anti-car. The United States has a violent crime rate similar to that of other industrialized countries. But lethal crime - the homicide rate -- is many times higher in the United States. The critical difference is easy access to guns.
